A Practical Styling Guide
A room-by-room method for choosing decor without overbuying or overfilling the space.
1. Read the fixed elements first
Walls, flooring, windows, built-in cabinetry, major furniture, and daylight form the visual base. Decor should work with these elements rather than fight them.
2. Define the room's real function
List the things that happen in the room: watching television, reading, hosting, children's play, work, meals, prayer, storage, or quiet rest. Protect the space needed for those activities.
3. Build a material family
Choose two or three recurring materials such as ceramic, timber, brass, cane, linen, glass, stone, or painted metal.
4. Repeat colour with restraint
A small accent colour repeated in three places often feels more intentional than many unrelated colours used once.
5. Edit at the end
Remove one or two items from each styled surface. If the arrangement improves, keep the simpler version.
